Work To Protect Filey’s Flat Cliffs is finally paying off
There has been a major breakthrough in plans to protect the community of Flat Cliffs near Filey from coastal erosion.
Scarborough Council has appointed a consultant to design and manage the project to provide a new access road.
As it stands, there’s only a single road to get to and from the 45 properties, which is at critical risk of coastal erosion.
Councillor Mike Cockerill, portfolio holder for Project Leadership at Scarborough Borough Council stated:
“It will be a certain degree of peace of mind for the residents, because at the moment it could be that the cliff slipped and took the road with it.
That would mean no emergency vehicles could get down to anyone, even the borough council’s bin wagons couldn’t get down, the area would be totally cut off.”
