Visitors Flock to the Fishtive Tree
As we approach the shortest day of the year, it’s the perfect time to visit the Coble Landing to see the Fishtive Tree lit up. It is constructed from lobster and crab pots by local fishermen. The tree is topped by a golden Salmon. Now into its third year the ‘fishtive’ tree is a much loved part of Christmas at Filey.
A Filey resident saw a similar tree whilst visiting Ullapool on the west coast of Scotland. The idea was embraced by the local fishing community and it has become a tourist attraction in its own right. Schoolchildren have designed the bunting that surrounds the tree and there is a collection box for visitors to donate towards both the costs of the tree and young people’s charities in the town.
The tree will be lit everyday at dusk until 2 January.
