It has one of the largest collection of vintage fairground rides, organs and vehicles in the country, but the Scarborough Fair Collection is set to remain closed for the remainder of the year. The attraction was unable to open as usual this spring due to the Corona Virus pandemic, but plans had been put in place to facilitate a reopening in September. Sadly, the logistics behind even a limited season were such that the decision was taken to remain closed, with a view to a full reopening in the spring of 2021.

The huge collection, based near the Flower of May caravan park, is a glorious jumble of equipment, thus making exhibits, as varied as a Wurlitzer organ to a carousel dating from 1893, covid-free would be a huge challenge. Therefore, the decision to remain closed until 2021 is understandable.

We look forward to welcoming the Scarborough Fair Collection back in the new year, alongside a host of other events cancelled in this miserable year: from the inaugural Filey Literature Festival, the ever-popular Folk Festival and too many others to list.

Let’s hope that 2021 will be a bumper year for Filey and the wider Yorkshire coast!
