The Glorious Twelfth … as Filey’s pubs reopen
It was a tough job, but the filey.co.uk editorial team took it on; testing the newly opened public houses of Filey.
At noon on Tuesday we arrived in bright sunshine at The Star. Tables are available at the front of the pub and in the beer garden around the back. It wasn’t long before every table was taken. Smiles were everywhere and familiar faces were toasted with raised glasses. We managed to work our way through quite a variety of the pubs alcoholic offerings.
But, we had a mission to complete, so it was off up the road to the Top House (or Station to use its Sunday name). The covered area around the back was absolutely packed to the rafters. Every seat taken, with a real buzz in the air. We eventually stumbled off in the direction of Banks Lounge Bar. By this time the sun was setting, so it was a case of shuffling the chairs around to eek the last warmth from the day.
From next Tuesday we are hearing that, fingers crossed, the White Lodge Hotel will be reopening its lovely garden for drinks, coffee and snacks. Whilst licensed until 1am, they anticipate closing at a more sedate South Crescent time of 8pm, unless the sun is shining and the drinks flowing and then …
