Filey to host Tour de Yorkshire
The famous cycle race Tour de Yorkshire will be passing through Filey on 30 April. Filey will feature on the 176.5km Beverley to Redcar section of the race. This section essentially takes the race up the entire Yorkshire coastline. The route is Beverley – Hornsea – Bridlington – Flamborough – Filey – Hackness – Cote de Hook – Whitby Abbey – Cote de Lythe – Saltburn-by-the sea – Redcar.
The route misses Scarborough and its seafront for the first time. Full route details can be found on the Tour de Yorkshire website.
The race last passed through Filey in 2018 and gave the race one of its iconic scenes when the riders tacked the Crescent Hill in front of hundreds of spectators. The images were flashed around the world and have been reused time and again on national and international media.
At the moment no exact details of the race’s route in Filey itself is available, although the Tour de Yorkshire’s website shows the route as Muston Road – Station Road – Scarborough Road. It would be a shame if the race did not come along the seafront and recreate the magical scenes on the Crescent Hill. Let’s hope it does!
