East Coast Soap Box Derby Comes to Filey
On Sunday 5 September Filey is set to host the Yorkshire Coast Super Soapbox Challenge. Anyone can enter the race, but you will have to make a non-motorised soapbox cart and register with the organisers via their website supersoapboxchallenge.co.uk/filey
Then you will be at the mercy of gravity and your nerve as you hurtle down the Ravine Road course. The start line will be in the Ravine near St Oswald’s Church, it will snake down towards Coble Landing, before turning onto the Beach Road and the finish line.
Large screens will be erected on the Ravine Road, so spectators won’t miss any of the free to watch action, including commentary, the latest scores and much more. As well as the racing, there will a funfair, live music and plenty of food and drink stands.
Teams of five people are required to take part in the event. Four team members must be 16 years old or over and the fifth person, who will be the driver of the soapbox. Fun and themed soapboxes are encouraged and there will be seven prizes available to the winners of the various categories as well as medals for all entrants.
