Perhaps we are getting complacent? A little blasé even. Filey’s beach has featured in yet another ‘best beaches’ article. They seem to be almost daily. Perhaps it is because we have always known that our beach is on a par with anything? Everyone else seems to be catching on.

We partly joke of course. It is great news that Filey beach has been named in the top twenty in Europe. Seeing off competition from sun-kissed beaches of the Med, with their boring sunny weather and flamboyant local womanisers.

The latest award comes via the US-based guide ‘Far & Wide‘ and is based on TripAdvisor reviews. The travel restrictions caused by Covid is undoubtedly prompting writers to utilise online reviews as a baseline. This has played into Filey’s hands, as we are far from the beaten path as regards international tourists, but going forward who knows! Perhaps allied to the work of our friends at Filey Bay 1779, we might just see an influx of visitors from the United States.
